Hello,
During the spring move-out we have a good system for diverting a
significant amount of material from the landfill called "Take it or leave
it." There is a big tent for this program that just went up south of the
ERC. We'll be setting up small donation stations for students tomorrow and
we should begin to get materials over the weekend. Please feel free to
participate by:
- dropping off office materials next week
- making personal donations
- coming and taking stuff
- volunteering - we could really use some help moving and sorting
materials
- contacting local nonprofits or community members that could benefit
from this reuse program and encouraging them to come take materials
(helping hands and the humane society are already informed)
Here's a website with info:

Here's a volunteer sign-up link: https://signup.com/go/gMHBeas

*24th SHIPLEY DISTINGUISHED LECTURES*
*PLEASE JOIN US FOR LECTURES & REFRESHMENTS:*
*LECTURE #1:* Thursday, April 4th, 4:00 PM, Science Center 360
(Refreshments at 3:30 pm)
*From Silicon to Plastic: it’s all about surfaces, interfaces and materials
chemistry*
Nanostructured materials play important roles in a wide range of advanced
technology applications, stimulating interest in the ‘Internet of Things’.
In response to that interest, printed, flexible and even stretchable
electronics have potential as low cost alternatives for devices in
application ranging from energy to health care to security. However, their
successful commercialization relies on the design and development of
sustainable, robust and reliable materials chemistries and processes.
While molecular design plays a significant role in determining materials
electronic performance, molecular structure is not the only consideration.
Device performance also depends critically on surfaces, interfaces and
active material assembly/alignment at many length scales. This presentation
will explore how surface chemistry considerations, coupled with interfaces
and physical interactions can impact the design and development of advanced
new materials chemistries for applications ranging from devices to energy
storage and conversion.
*LECTURE #2*: Friday, April 5th, 9:30 AM, BH Snell Hall 213
(Refreshments at 9:00 AM)
*Polymer Fibrils, Transport Pathways and Stretchable Electronics*
Simultaneous enhancement of the electrical performance, mechanical
stretchability, and optical transparency of conjugated polymers may
significantly broaden the spectrum of realizable applications for these
materials in future intelligent optoelectronics, i.e., wearable devices,
electronic skin, stretchable displays, and a vast array of biomedical
sensors. The successful introduction of these devices however, relies on
the design and development of sustainable, robust and reliable materials
chemistries and processes. Studies have shown that not only does device
performance depend critically on semiconductor alignment at many length
scales, materials’ mesostructure can be manipulated in solution prior to
device fabrication. Observations surrounding the behavior of these
materials suggest that requisite macroscopic long-range order required for
high performance devices may be achieved through process chemistry coupled
with quantitative analysis of processed semiconducting thin film images.
This approach allows development of robust materials
structure-process-property relationships that can then be used to guide
subsequent materials design and process approaches.

Dear Clarkson Community,
The University Libraries is offering (for free), original unframed art
prints by various contemporary artists. Most prints are signed and numbered
lithographs, etchings, etc. Prints vary from realism to abstract
expressionism. You can view and acquire them in the atrium of the ERC. Prints
are offered on a self-service, first-come-first-served basis, while
supplies last.

Hi:
I got a call this morning from the office of Dr. Gregory Healey who is
opening a new office in Potsdam (he already has one in Canton). He wanted
to announce an invitation to his Open House
Open House
Thursday, Sept. 13
4-6 pm

This is not suitable for an official announcement, but Kelly suggested that
I forward the info to you in case you want to put it up on the General

Just as the dog days of summer are nearly over, National Dog Day is nearly
upon us. (It’s August 26. You didn’t know?) In honor of this celebration of
our four-legged pals, we’re asking faculty and staff to submit photos of
their dogs for a possible web gallery, “Clarkson’s Canines.”
Please share original size (highest resolution) JPEGs of your dog(s), with
you or without you; email by August 22 to apower(a)clarkson.edu. Please
include the dog’s name and any other pertinent information. Thanks!

We have several wall dividers available for the taking. Many of them are
missing the bottom end caps but are otherwise in good shape and work well
for a backdrop or divider.
They are outside of Camp Annex 2211 for the taking or you can call me at
315-244-7116.
We would like to remove them in the next day or two.
Thanks,
Laura

Professor Mario Wriedt is moving into labs on the 3rd floor of CAMP, 328,
337 and 345, inherited from Professor Dan Goia. We have noticed that some
lab ovens from 328 and/or 345 have been removed from the labs. Please
contact me if you moved any ovens or know of anyone who has moved them as
they were intended to stay with Professor Wriedt. Your help is greatly
appreciated.

Colleagues,
The Adirondack Global Sports Committee is looking for college interns and
volunteers to be an integral and exciting part of the International
Children’s Games <http://international-childrens-games.org/icg/> to be
hosted in Lake Placid January 6-11, 2019. Earlier today, we sent our
student body the message below that includes a survey link
<https://goo.gl/forms/2OQHG7IDi5RAqA8w1> to express their interest and we
would ask you to encourage students to consider participating in this
regional international event that will begin before our Spring 2019
semester starts next year.
You are also welcome to join a group of faculty and administrators coming
together on *Monday, March 12 at 3:15 p.m. in Science Center 320* to
further discuss Clarkson’s role and opportunities for engagement with the
Games’ 12- to 15- year-old athletes and their families. There is a place
on the survey <https://goo.gl/forms/2OQHG7IDi5RAqA8w1> if you would like to
also share your interest in being part of these games and can’t join us on
March 12.
In the interim, please reach out to me with questions and further ideas for
our participation. I’m happy to note that earlier this week, Gov. Cuomo
also announced that our region was awarded FISU’s World University Games
for 2023 which will be another great way for students and our institutions
of higher education to participate in international academic and cultural
exchanges. Thanks. Kelly

The International Children’s Games will be coming to Lake Placid and the
Adirondacks’ Region January 6-11, 2019 for competition in multiple winter
sports. Attracting 800 to 1000+ youth ages 12 to 15 from cities around
the world, the 53rd edition of the International Children’s Games will be
in the United States for the first time ever. This is an ideal opportunity
for college students who like winter sports, who want to be part of a
cultural exchange with people from other nations, who want to gain
experience working with and sharing their knowledge with youth, and who
want to add practical skills to their resumes by working in a large,
multi-faceted international event.
This short survey <https://goo.gl/forms/2OQHG7IDi5RAqA8w1>* is intended to
gauge your initial interest in being a part of these games and to give us a
way to provide you with further information later this spring as plans move
forward (https://www.lakeplacid2019.com/ has more info coming!) . For more
information, please contact Kelly Chezum, VP for External Relations at
Clarkson University and member of the Adirondack Global Sports Committee,
at kchezum(a)clarkson.edu.
