Season's Greetings to you and your family from the Clarkson University Honors Program! It's been a wonderful fall semester in the Honors Program! We welcomed 37 new first-year students in August. Our sophomores are working diligently on the Sophomore Project, investigating ways to improve the bio-resiliency of North Country. Juniors are working on proposals for their Honors theses. Our seniors are hard at work finishing up their theses while making applications to graduate schools and interviewing for full-time professional positions. The Honors Program will be growing in the coming years, and we will be launching new initiatives including a brand new Leadership Program and a $2,000 supplement to the Honors scholarship, which will provide funding for educational enhancement activities such as study abroad, travel to conferences, and service learning. We will soon be sending you the annual Honors Newsletter, which will catch you up on the activities of our students and alumni. PT, PA, and OT Students Collaboration

In the month of October the physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant students joined forces for four important events for each program. On October 20th, the Doctor of Physical Therapy program held their annual mock court case to determine the fate of a physical therapist alleged to have committed malpractice. This year, the physician assistant students participated with both PT and PA groups playing the roles of witness and jurors. Clinical Professor, Stacey Zeigler, runs the court case as part of the PT645 course and states, ³this year was definitely special and more meaningful with the camaraderie and perspectives of both groups who will face many of the same challenges when it comes to the law and healthcare in their futures.² The Occupational Therapy program organized and ran the Assistive Technology Expo held at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY on October 26 and 27th. This event is a large interprofessional conference that is a very unique continuing education opportunity and this year marks the first year the event was offered as an Occupational Therapy department initiative. The OT and PT students were critical in event management of each day while also learning from speakers and colleagues in the field. ³This was a good way to highlight the unique contributions of occupational therapy while exploring new ways we now see we can collaborate across disciplines,² said Rebecca Ballard, first year OT student. On October 28th, Clarkson Hall was invaded by pirates, walking cupcakes, princesses, spiders, wizards, ScoobyDoo and fire-fighter puppies! The 3 year olds in the Smart Cookie enrichment program, a collaborative incubated business and research lab, visited Clarkson Hall in costume, receiving treats from the PA, PT, and OT program¹s staff and students. They ended in the OT Pediatric Sensory Gym, munching on their treats and interacting with graduate students. The month ended with the Physician Assistant program¹s Haunted Infirmary to benefit the future PA mission trip to the Dominican Republic. This event took the participation of all three programs¹ students in order to make it a success. Michael Keyes, PA Student, reported that ³this year the Haunted Infirmary generated over $9,000, and with help from some of the PT and OT students, the PA Program was able to provide an amazingly scary and fun experience for the community while simultaneously raising funds for the medical mission trip.² The three health profession programs at Clarkson University look forward to continued work together to benefit their learning, their future, and their community. As Srishti Bajaj, third year DPT student summarized, ³healthcare needs leaders and through our collaborative efforts, we are all learning great leadership skills.²

And that helps the Peanut Butter and Jelly program my daughter and I started two years ago with the center's director, Daisy Cox. We are now feeding 25 at -risk kids a week during the summer and we hope to grow it to help even more kids next year. North Country Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program, Oct. 29

You are invited to participate in the *North Country* *Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program* that will be held on: *Thursday October 29,2015* *Beginning at 5:30PM* *George Hall Auditorium, Ogdensburg Free Academy* *1100 State St., Ogdensburg, NY 13669* The free program lasts approximately 2 hours and the training is conducted by members of the NY National Guard. The training seeks to provide citizens with the tools and resources to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. Each family that attends will receive a NYS Disaster Preparedness Kit that contains key items to assist individuals in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. The state training and kits will help New Yorkers be the most-trained and best-prepared citizens in the country. Clarkson Robot Zone Exhibit at State Fair, Sat.

If you're at the State Fair this weekend ... Clarkson's University's Northern New York Robotics Academy and its traveling Robot Zone exhibit will be at the New York State Fair this Saturday, September 5, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both inside and directly outside the 4-H Youth Building/ Youth Center Complex of the Fair. Faculty and students from Clarkson's Robotics Living-Learning Community and Robotics SPEED team will provide hands-on demonstrations of the FIRST pipeline of extra-curricular programs, as well as an in-class project based curriculum, developed for middle and high school classrooms using robotics technology. They will also offer some research-oriented robotics, including a quad-copter and assistive robotic devices, such as the NAO robot, an autonomous, programmable humanoid robot currently being used at Clarkson in research to develop new strategies for teaching children with autism. FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology."

Canadian Studies Research and Teaching Grants

Dear All, The Clarkson University Center for Canadian Studies is dedicated to "Promoting education and research on Canada and the U.S./Canada relationship." We are an endowed Center of the University with a limited amount of money available each year to distribute to faculty on projects meeting that objective. Examples of funded projects include: 1) A conference focused on bringing together scholars from both Canada and the United States leading to long-term cross border relationships 2) Class Field Trips (both single and multiple day) to Canada 3) Seed money for research projects focused on Canada or U.S./Canada issues, hopefully leading to additional sources of funding 4) Seed money to support development of courses with significant Canadian content 5) Conference travel to Canadian destinations to promote cross border partnerships The Center considers proposals on a rolling basis, and is flexible on how such proposals are considered. The show, titled "FORGET GRAMMAR THINK POTATOES," will be on display in the Roland Gibson Gallery from Feb. 5 to March 28. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gibson Gallery, located in Brainerd Hall. This event is free and the public is invited to attend. "FORGET GRAMMAR THINK POTATOES" will be on display at SUNY Potsdam through Saturday, March 28. About the artist: Working within the confluence of linguistic, social and technical forms of language and convention, Bang Geul Han aims to both explore and blur the coded spaces dividing understandings of fiction and non-fiction, and public and private. Focusing on the permeable and elastic nature of translations and transitions, her work examines the contradiction of linguistic and technological systems as sites of totalizing standardization, as well as fertile grounds for subversion and creativity. Han earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in electronic integrated art from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and a BFA in painting from the Seoul National University. Han has received many fellowships and completed artist residencies, including at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the MacDowell Colony and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Workspace Program. She is an assistant professor in the Digital Arts and Sciences Program at Clarkson University, Potsdam. The Art Museum at SUNY Potsdam serves as the center for visual arts at the College, and encompasses all of the collections found throughout campus, including in the Gibson Gallery. The Museum is dedicated to the exhibition and interpretation of quality works of art, and its collection includes significant artworks from the 20th and 21st centuries as well as earlier pieces. The mission of The Art Museum at The State University of New York at Potsdam is to make direct experience of the visual arts accessible to students, faculty, staff and alumni of the College, as well as to residents of Northern New York. Admission to the Gibson Gallery, located at Brainerd Hall, is free, and the exhibition space is handicapped-accessible. WTSC update: Prize package giveaway for upcoming games, Final half of last season for veteran broadcasters

Ben and Dan (who first became acquainted as roommates) have been at the helm of the hockey broadcast for the station for the last 3 seasons. Having never broadcast on the radio before coming to Clarkson, they both found a groove behind the mics and have become established in the surrounding community as the leading student broadcast this side of the Mississippi. Prior to Ben and Dan’s arrival at Clarkson University, the station had not broadcast a single hockey in many years, so everyone was excited to hear their debut broadcast and have hockey return to the airwaves. With innovative ways of promoting the station/broadcasts, Ben and Dan have made a large impact on the Hockey broadcast scene. It is also worth noting that Dan has been awarded “Best Dressed for radio broadcasts” for now an impressive fourth year in a row. It is with much sadness that we wish them farewell as the number of games remaining for them to broadcast slowly dwindles down. “We are sad to say so long at the conclusion of the season but look forward to the upcoming seasons as we tune in from around the country,” says Ben (Sports director for 4 years at the station). “We know Austin (future sports director) will keep the broadcasts alive and strong when we depart.” Austin Koning will take over the day to day operations as he will become the next Director of Sports Broadcasting, Sadie Lincourt will take over all marketing/advertising for Sports Broadcasting, Bailey Hoadley-Brown will take over the broadcasts social media/fan interaction, and John LaRue and Ethan Ross-Hixson will take over the broadcasts for the 2015-2016 Men’s Hockey season.
